In 2016 we had a complete rebuild of our house by LOC Construction and we cannot recommend them highly enough.

We put our rebuild out for tender and interviewed four builders concerned. We required a builder whom we could trust and one that would stay on the job for the entire build. We are fussy so quality of work was a big factor. We looked at examples of their work and talked to the people concerned.

We chose LOC Construction owned by Les O’Connell who worked on the job together with his son Tom, and their team. We found out that Les had rowed for New Zealand so we new he would be hard working and committed. Their sub contractors were first class and arrived when scheduled. Les was not only the builder but project managed the whole project. Over the rebuild there were alterations we required and we found Les very flexible and worked with us to make sure we obtained exactly what we required without any hassle.

We could not be happier with the work LOC Construction did for us and the care they took in the final finishing touches.

LOC Construction built our new home in 2013-2014 this was a rebuild after the 2011 earthquakes.

We found the workmanship to be of a very high standard and are delighted with our new house. Les and his team were punctual, pleasant and efficient and the build was finished within a 12-month timeframe. Les’s sub-contractors were helpful and easy to deal with.

We have had the pleasure of working with Les O’Connell on three separate projects since 1999 up to the present day.

We first came into contact with Les in 1999 when we were planning to build a new house in Governors Bay. Les was the preferred contractor, not only on price, but also on track record with his ability to complete difficult projects on time and within budget.

This was a challenging building project on a steeply sloping site requiring significant excavation and site preparation prior to building construction. The house was substantial in scale constructed over four levels and requiring not only quality workmanship but also excellent project management coordinating all trades.

The house was completed in line with the project critical path and to a very high standard. Les, and his staff, were always courteous, helpful and client focussed.

This excellent relationship with Les lead to us once again employing him when we undertook major site works in 2005. This project was also completed on time and budget with minimal disruption to our family.

In 2016 we planned to completely rebuild our hillside home on Scarborough Hill. Prior to construction commencing we needed to refurbish our double garage which is on a steeply sloping hillside site including replacement of the floor. We employed LOC and the project was completed to budget with minimal disruption as we were still living in our house.

When the plans and specifications were completed LOC was one of three preferred tenderers. Les and his team were selected, not only on price, but also on the proposed project programme and logistics for this challenging site.

The building works required the demolition of the existing dwelling while retaining the foundation and floor due to site coverage and recession plan issues. Due to access difficulties the demolition and building programme required precise planning and management.

The building has just been completed with the difficult process made relatively problem free due to the strong leadership and management by Les and the skills of his team. The finishing work is first class with the team taking great pride in their workmanship.

As with previous projects Les has communicated well with us as clients and with our architect and engineer. Where problems have surfaced Les has found innovative solutions ensuring project delivery on time.

We would strongly recommend Les and the LOC team for any building project particularly where requiring skilled project management, leadership, planning and quality building execution.

LOC Construction were a great company to have working alongside us building our new home. Right from the first meeting we had a good feeling, Les came across as knowledgable, respectful and fair. We had no doubt we had picked the best builder for our new house.

The work ethic from Les, Tom, Jarred and Kaleb was 2nd to none, always on time, worked full days, cleaned up after 5pm and left the site neat and tidy. They were respectful and courteous to us and the neighbours. Les would scour the plans, looking for possible issues and was not afraid to speak up if he felt something wasn’t correct. Any issues with plans/details were thought about and fixed seamlessly between Les and I, the communication was valued. The whole teams attention to detail was fantastic. The only variation to cost were additional details/ items we requested and the cost was fair. LOC finished before scheduled end date, on budget with excellent build quality. These three elements together are a thing of rarity these days and the team should be proud of there work. Les and the team will definitely be our choice builder for our next one ( if I’m allowed) and hopefully yours! Les O’Connel built our house in 2007 /8. He did a fantastic job. Les was hands on, the standard of his work was excellent and he was a pleasure to work with. You always felt that Les was reliable. He worked to a fair timeframe and what he said he would do always happened. He was very good at thinking through intricacies in advance and solving practical problems. Next time we build a house I would be getting Les to do it. He is a good man and good builder.
